Consumers are calling for a new generation of ergonomically designed electronics, which allow users to carry, wear and interact with technology in new ways, making the interaction with technology a more personal and enjoyable experience. The dawn of this transformational era is already upon us as device manufacturers begin to test prototype flexible applications, and the first generation of smart watches begins to enter the market.

Enabling this leap in the consumer experience is a new breed of transistor, a key enabling component in the evolution of modern display-based technology. Today, a type of thin-film transistor (TFT) comprising organic semiconductor compounds is competing to offer device manufacturers a route to the production of high performance yet flexible, foldable and even roll-able displays, by presenting certain significant advantages.
